Parasite | Team Developed

Responsibilities: Game Design, Level Design, Writing, Art

Tools: Unity, Piskel, Trello, SourceTree

About: Parasite is a sci-fi murder mystery adventure game with branching story paths. The game takes place in the distant future on a research station following a mysterious death on board. The game was heavily based on the horror movie “The Thing”. It was initially developed with the conception of a horror game with branching narrative paths and a climactic finale, over the course of three months it moved from conception and documentation to full scale development being completed in just three weeks.

In the early phase of development I worked with my team mates to hash out the games setting and mechanics. We created a story bible and flow chart for the games varying branching paths. Once development had begun in earnest I worked on creating some of the puzzles in the game such as the chase near the end and a portion of the games writing. Finally I created some 2D art assets for the game.

Takeaways: This project proved to be at times incredibly engaging but also very intense. It required on my end multiple roles to uphold and constant communication with team members. As a designer it gave me an appreciation for the difficulty of creating branching paths in games but it made me a stronger designer for it. Furthermore I developed my skills in game writing and environmental story telling through my experiences working on it. It was posted on itch.io and has over 120 downloads.
